The City of Raleigh Bicycle Transportation Plan

Project Description > The City of Raleigh received funding from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT)'s Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Grant Initiative to develop a Bicycle Plan. Greenways Incorporated led a Consulting Team to conduct extensive fieldwork, evaluating the current bicycling conditions and creating a Bicycle Level of Service (BLOS) for Raleigh roadways. The goal of the inventory and analysis was to identify gaps in the bicycle network and opportunities for bicycle facility development.

Greenways Incorporated conducted an open, participatory process with residents of Raleigh through public workshops and an online comment form. We have generated recommendations based on our evaluation and City staff and public input. These recommendations will improve connectivity and create a network of bicycle facilities. We also developed a method for prioritization of facilities for implementation to guide the City of Raleigh. Programming, operations, maintenance, and funding issues are addressed as well. Our project work was completed in spring 2009.
