The North Delaware River Greenway, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Project Description > Greenways Incorporated was commissioned by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council in 2005 to prepare a Greenway Master Plan and Cost Benefit Analysis report for the North Delaware River corridor. Originally envisoned as a 21st century revitalization project, PEC and the City of Philadelphia wanted to ensure that transforming industrial land into a public access greenway was the most economically feasible strategy to undertake. Greenways Incorporated was also asked to define the facility make-up of the riverfront greenway, define an implementation program for the project and assist the City and PEC in setting up an implementing organization that would undertake acquisition and construction of the project. All of the program objectives were accomplished, and in 2006, the North Delaware River Corporation began operations and is currently undertaking the full implementation of the Master Plan recommendations.
