Project Description > Greenways Incorporated, in association with Haden.Stanziale, Inc. of Charlotte, prepared a Greenway Master Plan for Charlotte-Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. One of the goals of this effort was to redefine greenways in the region as facilities which not only provide transportation and recreation benefits to trail users, but also floodplain management, water quality, and wildlife habitat benefits. The City-County Greenway System had been in existence for 15 years. So this master plan represented a major overhaul of the county?s prior efforts. The multi-objective nature of this master planning effort included the coordination of numerous local agencies: The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities Department, Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Storm Water Services, and the Surface Water Improvement Management Initiative. In addition to preparing the Greenway Master Plan, Greenways Incorporated developed a new GIS-based “greenway” layer for the county, produced three newspaper inserts to advertised the planning process, developed an executive summary brochure for public distribution, and prepared the county?s first trails brochure to promote the greenway system.
