Project Description > The City of Jacksonville, Onslow County and the Jacksonville MPO have partnered to prepare a bicycle and pedestrian master plan for the greater Jacksonville area. The concerns for bicycle and pedestrian transportation extend beyond local resident needs, and include the Camp Lejune Marine base and its population. The goal of the planning effort is to examine the needs of community residents, the interface with the marine base and specific corridors and locations that currently support bicycle and pedestrian activity.
Greenways Incorporated will conduct an open, participatory process with residents of the community. All work is being produced in a digital environment, using GIS technology. We are completing an extensive field evaluation of current conditions for bicycling and walking. We are generating recommendations for the community that will improve connectivity and create a network of bicycle and pedestrian routes. We will also address programming, operations, maintenance and enforcement issues. We anticipate our project work being completed by the Fall of 2008.
