Brian Scott Bergeler has been a Planner and GIS Specialist at Greenways Incorporated for over two years. He has a background in geography with five years experience producing maps and analyzing data with GIS. He has served as project manager for several complex urban- and rural-area planning efforts, including the Durham Comprehensive Bicycle Transportation Plan, the Blue Clay Road Corridor Bicycle Facilities Study (for the Wilmington Urban Area MPO) and the City of Greenville, South Carolina, Trails and Greenways Master Plan. Altogether, Brian has planned and mapped over 1,000 miles of detailed on- and off-street bicycle and pedestrian facility recommendations.
Brian’s involvement in such projects provide him with the experience necessary to plan for connected, accessible and safe networks for bicycle and pedestrian transportation. For the City and County of Durham, NC, Brian led the field assessment of all major roadways and developed individual, detailed project cutsheets for implementation. In NCDOT planning grant projects, Brian conducted Global Positioning Systems (GPS) fieldwork, mapping sidewalks by bicycle in Wake Forest, NC and Graham, NC. In Chatham County, NC he mapped trail alignments for the Briar Chapel Community, also using GPS.
In addition to the planning efforts mentioned above, Brian also managed the GIS components of the Mount Holly, NC Greenprint and Catawba River Greenway, the Johnston County Mountains-to-Sea Trail Master Plan, the Dardenne Creek Greenway (The Great Rivers Greenway District, St. Louis Region, MO), the Wake Forest Pedestrian Plan, and the Black Mountain Pedestrian Plan.
