Converting Railroads and Canals into Trails

Greenways Incorporated is recognized nationally as a leading expert in the design, development and management of rail-trail greenways.

We served as co-author with the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy on Trails for the Twenty First Century , a state-of-the-art publication that defines trail development within man-made corridors. We are currently working with Island Press to update this publication.

We have planned, designed and overseen development of rail-trail projects in North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Arkansas and Minnesota.

Our staff are also experienced in the design and development of trails along historic canal corridors, having co-authored a national study and series of fact sheets through the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and National Park Service's "Towpaths-to-Trails" Initiative.
