Project Description > In spring 2010, the Green Team (including Alta Planning + Design, Greenways Incorporated, the Greenway Team, the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan, the League of American Bicyclists, and CEI Engineering), in conjunction with The Walton Family Foundation, conducted a trails and greenways workshop to assist the Foundation and Northwest Arkansas cities in developing a regional, multi-use greenway system that will connect people to places and encourage greenway use as an alternative to driving. The core of this regional, multi-use greenway system project is to collaboratively create a prioritized network of projects that result in an interconnected, comprehensive multi-use (walking and biking) greenway system including the municipalities of Bentonville, Fayetteville, Johnson, Lowell, Rogers, Siloam Springs and Springdale. There is considerable potential and interest in this system, including support from the NW Arkansas Metropolitan Planning Organization, the NWA Regional Planning Commission and the work of the Heritage Trail Partnership. The regional multi-use greenway system will complement the 2002 Heritage Trail Plan, which is a regional network of automobile, bicycle and pedestrian facilities that connects Northwest Arkansas citizens and visitors to heritage, recreational and cultural assets, a healthier lifestyle, and to each other.
